Abstract

Knossos is one of the most famous archaeological sites in Europe, known primarily for the Minoan palace brought to light by Sir Arthur Evans. However, the area has been occupied for much longer, from the Neolithic to the present day. In this article the authors describe the Knossos Urban Landscape Project, which since 2005 has been investigating the whole valley and the entire occupational sequence, involving both new survey and assessment of earlier work. Preliminary analysis has led to significant revision.
