Abstract
Novgorod is a waterlogged site that has preserved a uniquely detailed record of medieval life, where even personal letters written on birch bark have survived buried in the soil. Now British and Russian archaeologists are recovering new evidence of how the people lived and of the houses they built, as three members of staff of the Institute report.
